TextMate2

Note that this page only collects information that has been released about TextMate 2. Please do not post unanswered questions here, as the developer will not address them.

Q: Is TextMate 2 still in development, or has it been abandoned?

TM2 is being actively developed. If this text is still here, that is still the case. (Last updated June 14, 2009. Allan stresses that no release is "around the corner" yet.) Allan blogged about it here: http://blog.macromates.com/2009/working-on-it/

Q: Won't Allan hire more developers so we can get TM2 sooner?

Allan has hired Ciarán Walsh full-time to assist with TM2 development. Ciarán has made several TextMate 1 plugins, including ProjectPlus.

Q: When will TM2 be released?

[...] there is no ETA, and I won’t speak about timing before I am certain I can provide an (alpha/beta) release within the next month -- because really, the more I say, the more people ask, and having to answer the same questions over and over again is (for me) mentally exhausting.
So put TM 2.0 up there with Duke Nukem Forever and be positively surprised the day it is released :).

Q: Will TM2 run on older versions of Mac OS X like Tiger or Panther?

No, according to this blog post, TM2 will only run on Leopard.

Q: Will TM2 be a free upgrade?

Yes. Except for users who got TM1 as part of the MacHeist package. The MacHeist TM1 license will require an upgrade fee in order to upgrade to TM2. (source).

Q: Will TM2 support mouse gestures?

Maybe.

Q: Will TM2 allow background images in themes?

Doubtful.

Q: Will TM2 provide event hooks, e.g. to trigger audio-feedback in order to notify the user when word wrapping happens?

Yes, there will be a growl-like system with “events” that the user can hook into (i.e. setup an action for), and “find wraps” will be a very good candidate for that. (source).

Q: What other features will TM2 have?

Unknown, but Peter Haza offers some speculation.

Q: Does TM2 have a goofy codename yet?

Yes: "Avian".
